The story of Ingmar, the guitar's owner:
As a guitarist and huge fan of Roxette and Per Gessle, I've been searching in vain for over 15 years for the guitar that Per Gessle plays in the "Joyride" video: a white Rickenbacker 360.

Now, this Rickenbacker is no ordinary guitar, because it was built exactly once—exclusively by Rickenbacker for Per Gessle—in this configuration. What makes it special is that, in addition to the white finish, the gold pickguards, and the gold truss rod cover on the headstock, the neck also features white binding. Standard white Rickenbacker 360s do not have these features in this combination.

But in the fall of 2014, the time had finally come: Rickenbacker released the model in the “Per Gessle” configuration for the first time since Per Gessle’s white Rickenbacker 360. Only 25 of these guitars were built, but I was lucky enough to buy one of the last ones from a dealer in Japan.

In May 2017, I was lucky enough to attend an autograph session with Per Gessle at a record store in Malmö, Sweden. It was a dream come true. I brought not only my own guitar but also four others, which I had Per Gessle sign.
You can find a report on the book signing in the following article, in which I was also mentioned: http://roxetteblog.com/2017/05/06/per-gessle-en-vacker-signing-session-in-malmo/

In 2019, I happened to meet the person on Facebook without whom the 2014 Rickenbacker would never have existed: Andreas from RockWall Guitars has been the biggest Per Gessle and Roxette fan imaginable for ages, and his passion for Rickenbacker and Roxette has led to the creation of a guitar shop that specializes in Rickenbacker, among other things.

Andreas told me the following story about the creation of the 2014 Rickenbacker 360:

  • Andreas: “A few years ago, a Gibson manager from the Netherlands named Werner came to see me to sell one of his Rickenbacker guitars. We were talking, and he asked me what my absolute dream guitar would be—the one I’d love to own. For me, at that time, it was clearly a white Rickenbacker 360 with gold pickguards, just like the one Per Gessle from Roxette used in the ‘Joyride’ video—but it had been built just once, specifically for Per Gessle.Werner happened to know Ben Hall, the son of the then-president of Rickenbacker, who also works at Rickenbacker. Werner asked how the white 360 with gold pickguards had come to be, but unfortunately, no one at the factory could remember the guitar anymore.About a year after those events, I received a photo from Werner showing 25 built 360 models in my dream finish. Rickenbacker had actually built this guitar for the first time based on the Per Gessle model. Originally, these were supposed to be shipped to Germany, but unfortunately for me, they ended up going to Japan. The catch with Japan is that Rickenbacker dealers based there aren’t allowed to ship to Europe. After endless inquiries, however, I found a dealer who wasn’t aware of this restriction, and just under two months later, it arrived: the Rickenbacker 360 in Snowglo with a gold pickguard. What a dream come true.”

When I visited Andreas in Münster, I brought my Rickenbacker with me. Andreas also has one of these Rickenbacker 360s, though his doesn’t have Per Gessle’s autograph. When we compared the serial numbers on our two guitars, a slight shiver ran down our spines: my serial number ended in 746, and his Rickenbacker’s ended in 747.

In early 2020, I was diagnosed with cancer, which, combined with the coronavirus, put me in a difficult situation both health-wise and financially.
For this reason, I must now take a hard It took a lot of heart to bring myself to sell this one-of-a-kind Rickenbacker guitar.

None of this is easy for me. In any case, I’ll always have unforgettable memories of the guitar and the story behind it. And I also feel good about handing the instrument over to Andreas, a huge Per Gessle fan, who will then pass it on to good hands on my behalf.
