Special feature:

The Fender Custom Shop ’69 Stratocaster Relic is an authentic reproduction of the legendary Stratocaster models from the late 1960s and is part of the renowned Fender Custom Shop Time Machine Series. According to Fender, the model was first introduced in 1999 and remained in production until January 2010.

The instrument described here, from the year 2000, features the classic black finish and is adorned with an authentic relic finish. Fender describes the design as intentionally heavily aged: The instrument is meant to give the impression of having been played on countless stages over many years. This includes paint wear, dents, scratches, aged plastic parts, and artificially aged hardware.

A particularly distinctive feature is the “U”-shaped maple neck with a urethane finish. The fingerboard has a 7.25″ radius and is equipped with 21 vintage-style frets. According to Fender, both round-laminated rosewood and maple were available as fingerboard materials. The nut measures 1.650″ or 42 mm, while the scale length corresponds to the classic Stratocaster measurement of 25.5″ or 648 mm.

The Alder body is equipped with an American Vintage Synchronized Tremolo. Sound is generated by three Custom ’69 Strat single-coil pickups with gray bobbins, which are selected via the classic 3-way switch. The circuitry offers bridge, middle, and neck pickup selections; the two tone controls affect the neck and middle pickups, respectively.
Other features include Fender/Schaller Vintage “F” tuners, chrome- or nickel-plated hardware, and a large, 60s-style 3-ply parchment pickguard.
The guitar was crafted at the Fender Custom Shop in the U.S. and, according to the manufacturer, is based on the original Fender tooling. Fender explicitly refers to this model as “All Original Detailing” and classifies it as part of the Time Machine Series.
